Southwest Marine, Inc. a division of U.S. Marine Repair, the largest non-nuclear ship repair, modernization and conversion company in the United States, needed help in the design and installation of electrical structure wiring in a new building.

In December of 2000, they called Chula Vista Electric Co. to begin on upgrades to their telecommunications infrastructure in preparation accommodate their new Central Office Complex addition. The infrastructure upgrade consisted of the installation of a new 400 pair voice trunk line for the new COC building, as well as two 100 pair and one 200 pair voice trunk lines to serve several other building as well as future services for pier upgrades. Chula Vista Electric Co. also installed new Fiber Optic backbone cabling to link the main network operations center to the new Central Office Complex.

The work inside of the new Central Office Complex was unique in that not only did we install all new cabling for the voice system within the building, as well as a local area network system for Southwest Marine (SWM) we were also tasked with installing a separate yet parallel local area network for the U.S. Navy which would be occupying a large portion of the new COC. Both of the local area network systems within the COC were supplied with their own independent hybrid Multimode/Singlemode Fiber Optic Backbone to ensure the highest level of security and to provide for advanced Gigabit technology and ample future growth. Chula Vista Electric Co. installed approximately 150,000 feet of high-speed category 5e cabling, category 3 voice cabling, Multimode Fiber Optics, as well as Singlemode Fiber Optics.

With the exceptional team effort of Chula Vista Electric Co. and Southwest Marine Inc. our foreman, Robert Herold and his crew were able to complete the installation on schedule and on budget and to our crew's merit the entire installation of the infrastructure as well as the SWM LAN and the Navy LAN are in operation today with zero defects.
